"You have to love a nation that celebrates its independence every July 4, not with a parade of guns, tanks, and soldiers who file by the White House in a show of strength and muscle, but with family picnics where kids throw Frisbees, the potato salad gets iffy, and the flies die from happiness. You may think you have overeaten, but it is patriotism." ~Erma Bombeck

it just IS

with two under two, i find myself often asking 'why?' or sometimes, it's more dramatic like, "WHY, OH WHY?" lol. i want a reason. i want a reason for every unsolicited meltdown, every unexpected wake up, every time they won't eat, every time they fight sleeping, why they won't let me comfort them, etc, etc, etc. if it's unwarranted, i want a reason. i often search high and low too. i skim through my books, i google, i ask my mommy friends, hoping i will find an answer. a reason. some logic. i want it to make sense. and i really want to fix it.

teething? molars? four month wakeful period? bad dream? gas? hungry? poopy? can't poopy? too hot? too cold? seperation anxiety? phobias starting? tired? over tired? over stimulated? bored? coming down with something? just a phase?

sometimes, it just IS. sometimes i'm crabby, sometimes i don't feel like eating, sometimes i overreact (hard to believe, i know)....and all just because. no reason.
it just IS.

i thought this picture summed it up all too well....

"uh, it just IS mom."

sprinkler fun.....maybe

elena and her good friend, carter, were all excited to play in the sprinkler....

until elena realized it shot water out at her!! fingers went in the mouth (her nervous behavior) and she stood and stared at it dubiously....

me: "elena, do you want to run through the water?"
elena: "NO!"

me: "elena, do you look cute?"
elena: "yea!"

me: "elena, do you want to run through the water?"
elena: "NO!"

so hand in hand, her good friend carter took her through....

how cute are they?!!

but that brought on additional water works...

"all done running. all done water."

"all done running. all done water."

"all done running. all done water."

"all done running. all done water."

looks like it will take awhile to get used to the sprinkler. oh well, carter had fun!

3 months

sweet adelyn....3 months ago!

oh my goodness....my adelyn is 3 months old! if it's possible, i think i fall more in love with her everyday. she's soooooo good!! she is just such a happy, sweet baby! she smiles and smiles and smiles! and this wonderful, sweet energy just pours out of her! each time she smiles at ya it's as if she sees you for the very first time and thinks you're the very best thing! she makes my heart do little flip flops! and she giggles and giggles and giggles...it's simply the most precious sound!

she's a drooling machine. i suspect were not that far off from teeth??? (elena and i both had teeth at 4 1/2 mos) she's always soaked in drool and very rarely has her fingers not in her mouth. she's always trying to chomp them off like she can't get through them fast enough. she brings toys to her mouth, though they still usually need to be placed in her hand. she does bat at them but is still mastering grabbing. sometimes she gets it, sometimes not. she is studying each toy's purpose.

she loves to stand and sit up to see what's going on. she's wide eyed and curious. if she hears someone talking in the next room, she stops and seems to focus as if she's trying to figure out who the voice belongs to or what they're saying. or why she hears talking, but your lips aren't moving. ha. her legs are always going a mile a minute. kick kicking all over all the place. when she's on her tummy it looks like she's swimming in place. she tries to sit up while in her carseat or reclined in that way. she shows no interest in rolling her body, but she does have a go-go-gadget neck that she will turn great measures to see what she wants to. despite all the action, she is very chill.

adelyn's getting more picky about where she sleeps. she struggles to just fall asleep anywhere. she likes it quiet, she likes it dark, she likes her tummy and she likes her thumb. being out and about doesn't always offer those. we do our very best to respect that, which means less time out and about during naps.

she's growing and growing...getting some beautiful baby chunk that i just want to eat up! she's an awesome eater and an awesome sleeper! she goes down around 7pm. she sleeps through the night (over 12 hours) about 4-5 nights a week. the other nights she wakes about 5:30 or 6:00 to eat and then goes right back down. to sum up, she's amazing! and of course, lots and lots of pics of my miss adelyn from the last month...

all smiles....

"If you were to open up a baby's head - and I am not for a moment suggesting that you should - you would find nothing but an enormous drool gland." ~Dave Barry
