3 1/2

lanie you are 3 1/2 today and we just enjoyed a tiny celebration in your honor. it's only right, as you throw us birthday parties almost every day! ;)

you quite enjoyed your ice cream cup!

at 3 1/2 years old, lanie jae...

- you are funny. always have been. but seriously, funny. you crack us up several times a day.
- you are smart. a few weeks ago you just passed your 4 year old screening with flying colors and they commented that they should have given you the 5 year old screening to see where you were at. :)
- they also had to change one part of the screening assessment because of you. they have objects for the shape portion and there was an "egg" for oval and (of course) you argued that it was an egg. so now they've sinced changed it. ;)
- you can count, but once you get to 29, you say twenty-ten. i have to remind you of 30, 40, etc.
- you love to read and often read to your sister. you have a very sharp memory and can recite most books we have extremely detailed. you especially love reading about princesses.

- you love to rhyme. you're pretty good at it, but will make up words if you can't find something t rhyme with it.
- you love strawberry shortcake!!! you even have us often sing strawberry songs to you before bed. you would love to live in berry bitty city! and i'd go with ya!
- you're very active, BUT you love to snuggle up and watch a movie!

- you still move your tongue back and forth very fast when you're focusing.
- you draw/make cards daily. about a dozen. sometimes bday cards, sometimes invitations. they're for all your family and friends and you "mail" them out.
- you perform your ballet for us almost daily.
- you sing all the time. usually you're singing and dancing at the same time. you make up your own songs and are quite the performer...

e performs from Molly Leone on Vimeo.

- you make up games. your latest is "frog frog dolphin." when you say "dolphin" you have to splash. clearly it's off of "duck duck goose." you make up things like this often and it's too cute.
- you love to dress up and pose in front of the mirror or the camera.

just the other day, you set your camera up on the couch and you would press the button and hurry and jump in front of the camera and pose. you did it dozens of time. looks like you've already figured self-timer out. ;)

- you set the table every night.
- you almost always help your little sister with whatever she needs.
- you still wear pull ups at night. although 9 times out of 10 you are dry, it always seems a few nights after we stop them you wet the bed.
- you still have nightmares. you haven't had a night terror in a looong time. ::knock on wood::
- you're still back and forth with naps. literally some days you have no problem staying up and some days it's melt down city around 3pm.

- you're very thoughtful. you are always, always thinking of others.
- you're still wearing size 3T, but really need 4T.
- red remains your favorite color. purple is your second favorite color.
- you are starting to do preschool workbooks at home. you love them.
- you still love to draw. you draw lots of scenarios now...usally it is the 4 of us at the beach or in the yard.

you put grass on the bottom and the sand on the sides. and of course a sun.

you draw lots of butterflies too. and those scribbles are supposed words. you read them to us.

- you can write all the letters. you often write several down and then try and sound them out to see what "word" you made. it's never a true word, but it's very fun what you come up with.
- you know quite a few sight words...and love to sound out words. so much so that recently we thought you may possibly be reading and are going to start exploring this to see where you're really at.
- you love school. and you love dance class.

- you beg for the same breakfast every morning....waffle with peanut butter, banana and honey. it has literally ruined your day when you don't get it. serious.

- tacos remain your favorite meal...and you keep it together like such a big girl!!
- you have a teenage tone in your voice more often than not. you so get that from your dad. ;)
- you rarely get a time out anymore. you may need a break, but i don't know the last time you truly had a time out. we usually catch it before it gets crazy and you get some alone time instead.
- one of the biggest things you have done in the last 6 months is...STOPPED SPITTING!!! you still do suck your thumb, but you have finally broke this disgusting habit of spitting and instead swallow any spit you collect while enjoying your thumb. whew. you are still filling a big 'ol sticker chart on this (momma's making sure this habit is good and gone), but once you do - you get thee biggest prize ever! seriousy, you get whatever you want.

keep dreaming big lanie jae!!! happy half birthday! and now...lanie in action (tongue and all)

out of lanie's mouth...

::playing on a cold sunday afternoon::
mommy: "elena, want to build fort?!"
elena: "uh...no."
::2 mins pass::
elena: "daddy, want to build a fort?!"
::fort gets built by daddy and elena. they are now playing in the fort::
daddy: "where's mommy? she should be in our fort."
elena: (pokes head out) "mommy, you can be a monster and monsters can't come in our fort."
mommy: "sounds great!"
daddy: (clearly feeling bad for me) "how about i be the monster and mommy can be in the fort?"
elena: "no."
daddy: "why not?"
elena: "cuz you're my hero and i love you."
------------------------------------------
daddy: "i have a broken heart."
elena: (pretending to fix something and then holding her hands out) "here daddy, i fixed your heart."
------------------------------------------
excitedly pointing to beyonce on tv...
elena: "look, ma, it's the single lady."
------------------------------------------
doing her business while sitting on the toilet, which is across from a stack of magazines. the O magazine was on top. i overhear her...
elena: "oh, that's the oprah girl. she's really beautiful."
------------------------------------------
i'm in the bathroom when elena is just finishing up using the potty...
elena: (showing me precisely 2 squares) "is this enough, mom?"
me: "no, you should use a little bit more..." (grabbing more for her)
elena: "so, you DO want me to waste it!"
------------------------------------------
holding her empty hands out to me...
elena: "mommy, i have for you whatever you wish for in your heart."
me: "awwwe...elena..."
elena: "go ahead mommy, make a wish in your heart." (still holding her hands out)
------------------------------------------
reading a 'letter' she wrote...
elena: "love miss sunshine, you make me very happy. i hope you get the dream you wish for in your heart. you're invited to the berry best festival. thank you. dear, elena."
------------------------------------------
i just got done cutting up an orange for her...
elena: "mommy, these are cut too big...i don't appreciate this."
------------------------------------------
elena: "mommy, what does think mean?"
------------------------------------------
very frustrated, hands on hips...
elena: "ugh - this.is.the.same.direction."
has absolutely no relevance. so i ask...
me: "do you know what direction means?"
elena: "yes...do you?"
------------------------------------------
her friend messed up her track she was building. e was frustrated...
elena: "ugh - i am NOT impressed."
me: "do you know what impressed means?"
elena: "it means i'm happy when you don't mess up my track!"
------------------------------------------
reading a card she made...
elena: "birthday is coming up to you. this is a special invitation to a dance party. strawberry dance party office. come here for a surprise dance studio dance off. come for a speical party dance today at 9:30 to see a special dance surprise dance party junior for a special date. your surf dance studio. come. dear elena."
------------------------------------------
elena: "guess what i'm going to do mom? i'm going to make everyone i love a card and then mail it to them. everyone will love it."

the headers

well thanks ladies. i'm flattered that ya all are liking my headers. i would love to tell you all how talented, creative and fluid with the computer i am, but it's just not so. all i'm doing is making the collages on picasa. i click on the pictures i want to use and click 'collage.' i may edit my new collage as i want or keep it as is...and done. i save it to my computer and then upload them as my header. simple as that.
and the size of it is all because of the template i have, which is just from blogger too..."watermark" under template design. i'm so simple. i hope that helps though.

you...and you. right now.

you have five freckles; you have a chipped tooth.

you both suck your left thumb.

you pull your ear; you spit.

you get into michief; you tattle.

you both love love love stickers. and can play with them for hours.

you put stickers in every corner of your paper; you put stickers on your face.

you ask to go bye bye 5 x's a day; you drag your feet getting out the door like a teenager.

when i catch you being too quiet it's because you are looking in the mirror at yourself, sometimes talking to yourself; when i catch you being too quiet it's because you are eating a tube of chapstick, emptying a wipe container, trying to cover up a mess you made OR all of the above.

you eat everything and then ask for more; you eat 3 bites and EXPECT a treat.

you both love movies, books and baby dolls. we need nothing else.

you love to play card/board games; you love to play with card/board game pieces, often losing some.

you cry to be held; you cry, um, at everything lately.

you could be the queen of drama; and so could you.

you usually talk in complete sentences; you usually talk in a 15 year old tone.

you give excuses, very elaborate excuses, all the time; you say NO all the time.

you both want to be the first to do whatever it is were doing.

you often want to do everything all by yourself; you often become helpless and want things done for you even though you've been doing things by yourself for quite some time.

you wear the same flower headband, skirt, a few necklaces and rings every day; you wear the same black hat, tu-tu and as many necklaces as you can find every day.

you scribble and say "ta da" so proudly when you color; you make a dozen "cards" and hand them out so thoughtfully when you color.

you both set the table every night, taking turns with who does the napkins and silverware. you both do the plates/bowls.

you want to be held A LOT; you want to be held when you see her being held.

you have such an imagination are pretending some wild scenarios; you pretend to be leaving all the time.

you both make us laugh all.the.time.

you cry/whine in time out; you refuse to say sorry after time out.

you bite; you yell.

you both are typically very well behaved when out and about.

you boss; you don't listen.

you prefer hugs; you prefer kisses.

you both make life so much more fun...and worthwhile. thank you BOTH.

bag lady/blanket lady

must be the age... the age of collecting and gathering and repeating and excessiveness. cuz lanie used to do it when she was this age, but with baby dolls.

it's ad's time now...with blankets. little doll blankets. she only needs one baby doll...and then she covers it and covers it and covers it and covers it - with every blanket or possible blanket (kleenex, wipes, paper, washcloths, etc - they all count as possible blankets) again and again.

things to point out: 1) there is a baby doll under there; 2) there is a playmat and a kleenex used as blankets; 3) she covers and covers and then rips them all off, piles them up and then starts again - open blanket, shake it out, spread it gently on baby, repeat.
once baby is covered 812 times, the baby may go for a quick ride...

but it's quick. she'll stop and start again...
be done...but stop, take them all off and start all over again...
and least that baby is warm!
it's probably important to mention that this "phase" carries over to HER blanket needs as well...yep she sleeps with 4-5 blankets (and that's cuz we limit it). she makes us count them and she lays there and gets so excited to be covered and covered and covered...and covered. :)

blizzard 2011

about 20 inches of snow later and we are still rather housebound. more for the-lack-of-anywhere-to-really-go-so-why-risk-it reason. oh and it's freezing.

so we've been doing the usual...crafts, coloring, dress up, dolls, etc. but i find we're getting a little more sophisticated 'round here...
yep - that is e drinking warm mint water. cuz snow days wouldn't be complete without some congestion...
and we are getting kinda bored...but nothing a read through the phonebook can't fix...
it's really quite amusing...you should try it...
and of course we got all bundled up...in lots of layers...

and tried moving in our gear. [ad struggled to get up in her snowsuit. it took me a min to grab the camera, but i caught the last bit. haha. reminded me of randy from 'a christmas story.' and then of course e had to imitate.]

randy from Molly Leone on Vimeo.

and finally ventured out in it...
for a whopping 5 minutes...
our backyard is too deep, the girls would be close to buried. we didn't stay out long at all. the snow is too fluffy for a snowman. :( and lanie got a nosebleed. :( glad we spent 35 minutes getting dressed though...that was fun. :S
more crafts, coloring, dress up and dolls....coming right up.

girls weekend

last weekend j was snowmobiling...so it was us girls.

i had a fun weekend planned for us, but it ended up being a somber weekend for me personally. BUT my girls are constant reminders that the universe has a greater plan...and our plan this particular weekend was...

lots of dress up...

the girls have been "working" towards a trip to the library...and this was the weekend to go!
they both loved it! and didn't want to leave. they both got their own library card and checked out 3 books each! i'm excited for the library to become a regular activity...
seriously, LOTS of dress up...

movie nights....complete with popcorn.
one night was the favorite of the moment (seriously we watch it all the time)....dumbo.
and of course we baked cookies!
the girls love doing cut outs...and i love to eat them!
valentine cookies!
i am really such a lucky person to have them in my every weekend...
and my every day of life!
and before we knew we were welcoming home daddy!!
but yay for girls' weekends!!

disturbing....but HAS to go in the book

or the blog that will become the book.

so yea - this story is slightly disturbing. i'm not going to lie. i will however sugar coat it all i can. i've thought again and again i really maybe shouldn't post it cuz readers will cringe and/or puke in their mouth. my baby will probably laugh, but also be mortified when she one day reads it. but it just has to go in the book.

so, ahem...once upon a time...in a cozy and loving home...

i'm woken by adelyn's "maaaa-meeee...maaaa-meeee." i tiredly go, pick her up out of her crib, (simultaneously) give her a big squeeze, whisper 'good morning baby' and turn off her fan, and then head to the bathroom so i can relieve my bladder from it's latest 6 hour shift...with sweet ad still in my arms.

i stand in front of the toilet, set adelyn down right in front of me, drop my drawers, plop down and (simultaneously) pee, blink several times to help my eyes wake up and push ad's hair out of her face and behind her ear.

i hear, "uh oh mommy. uh oh mommy." from adelyn as she's pointing to the clothes-created bunch between my knees. she starts walking away, i look down and sure enough my monthly 'friend' has marked her territory...claiming victory for the next 4-5 days. "uh oh is right" i say back to her as i slide my clothing up to mid thigh and out of view until i can properly change and take care of things.

but by now little ad has been in my feminine product drawer, pulled out a tampon and is holding it up for me..."hee ya go mommy...hee ya go."

i picked my jaw up off the floor, said "thank you," took care of things...

and we live happily ever after. the end.

i've realized, and quickly accepted, that my privacy has been non-existent for nearly 3 1/2 years. and i know that they are watching and absorbing every moment, but seriously?!!

seriously! she knows what that means?!?!?!?!

i've only had about 9 "visits" since even being a mother,
remember, so i know i have a very observant girl on my hands. i mean pee in front of my girls, yes. but come on they're not making play books out of my bathroom trips...or are they? i probably should really start using the bathroom alone.

bwahahaha. now THAT story would be the real fairytale.

22 months

oh our sweet adelyn ann!!! you are 22 months old today and we cannot believe it!! ::cue tears now::

ad, you are miss independent! each and everyday you are trying to prove yourself more and more. and miss ad, you are doing a good job of it. a real good job. although, thank goodness, you still love to be babied once in awhile. you LOVE to be rocked and would sometimes prefer to carried all day long (just around the house - not when we're out, of course).

the BIGGEST thing this past month is you now speak FULL SENTENCES!!! everything is full sentences. you were using phrases and basically your just put "I" in front of everything. you also end everything with "mommy" or "daddy." so everything is, "i want a bite, mommy." "i hungry, daddy." "i want up, mommy." "i want to color, daddy." "i need help, mommy." it's been so fun to hear your little voice more and more! you're cutest word is "yahhh." and you say "no" all the time. it's more "NO!!" or "NO NENA!!"

you're pretty demanding. you always do the slow push on our thighs saying, "sit mommy" to get us to sit and give you our full attention. :)

you still have quite the temper...
you swat. you pinch. AND bite. :( this is you going after your sister's hand (don't worry i stopped her). and she currently has a nice bruise on her forearm from your teeth. you've also left some bruises on your friends. :(
another new thing this month is your newly developed fear of heights! we can still 'toss' you in the air if it's super duper quick, but if we hold you up there or do it the tiniest bit slower, you are terrified! you hate it. to the point that when you're on your changing table, you are holding on for dear life! no joke. unfortunately this has not curbed your desire to climb. apparently you're only scared of heights when it's on your terms. shocker, ad. i have a feeling this will be a theme for quite some time. ::grin::

you're imagination is really growing, ad. you love to pretend play. you're a great little momma to your dolls and are always going somewhere. you push your stroller with a purse on your arm, walk away from me and, loooking back, say, "bye mommy. la-lu."

it's so weird that we are about to plan your second birthday party, little ad. we're reminded of your babiness all the time though. like every time you suck your thumb and play with your ear...

our sweet adelyn, happy 22 months! you are so much fun! you love puzzles, stickers, books and colors. you have a sweet tooth and a hard head (seriously you hit your head all the time). you are a tiny little thing FULL of spunk. you have very good manners, but are as fiesty as helk. you're so extremely lovable and we can't help but laugh at you everyday. you're really so funny. you're so smart...maybe too smart. but really, you are awesome and i believe it's going to be a wild ride, but we're going to love it!
