our new year's eve

i have a love/hate relationship with new year's eve. i'm not that much of a fan of all the hype to party and do something fabulous, but i do find new year's super sentimental...and ya know how i love all the sentimental stuff. i love looking back on the year....being thankful for all that happened....and looking ahead to what the next year might have in store for us. awwwww.

well, this new year's eve was ridiculously nice out, so we headed out on a scavenger hunt (aka collecting crap off the street) of course.... with these 2 cuties....

we do this all spring, summer and fall and they simply love it to see what they collected....
truly love it....and right after this picture adelyn tried to pick up a piece of dog doo on the street and we high-tailed it home....
and of course we had to end the year with some ice cream...
we discussed some of our favorite things of 2011 - the top 2 were the slip-n-slide and welcoming our first cousin. and then we made a toast to what lies ahead....

10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.....HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!

well as you can see it was only 9 o'clock that we did our family countdown....then j and i started celebrating our new year....with crab legs of course....which j set up and cooked everything. :)

we got really dressed up for the occasion...

and we might have got a little silly....

and then someone got the giggles....
it wasn't me though....
well, maybe a little....

then we were back to being silly....

then i realized my camera was not capturing my cross-eyes. i figured it had to be the flash or something cuz i can certainly do cross-eyes. but then i tried and tried and tried....and well....i guess i can't do cross-eyes. :(
but it's ok - my dance skills make up for it....
hope you all had a happy new year too! our staying in, having a low key night (with a photo shoot) has been a long tradition of ours. and while it's nothing glamourous - it certainly is us! and we have such awesome memories of our no-big-deal-new-year's!
for the record - we made it til 2:30am!
